About us · Wakamizu

A ritual, brought to Germany.

Over twenty years of beauty craft, a HeadSpa hub in Viersen and a Japanese ritual as the benchmark.

若水wakamizu — the first water of dawn: purification & rebirth.

Behind Wakamizu stands over twenty years in the DACH beauty trade and some 200 salon relationships. From them grew one conviction: the Japanese scalp ritual belongs in Germany. Not as a trend, but as a craft.

Wakamizu is our answer: a complete HeadSpa system — from the lounger through care and textile to training your team. Turnkey, from one source, direct from the Viersen hub.

Our belief · Skinification of Hair

Scalp is skin. Treat it that way.

The Japanese principle of Bihada sees scalp and face as one continuous skin — and treats it that way.

“Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp — like a flourishing garden with healthy soil.”

The Skinification of Hair is the decade’s most powerful beauty trend: skincare principles — diagnostics, multi-step protocols, active ingredients — applied to the scalp. Japanese HeadSpa is its physical form: a 10–13 step ritual that treats the scalp the way a dermatologist treats facial skin. That is the knowledge we pass to every Wakamizu partner.

Origin · 1,500 years

The roots of an art 1,500 years old.

Authenticity, not imitation — the historical depth behind the method.

Japanese Head Spa is far more than a treatment. It is a centuries-old philosophy of holistic scalp care, rooted in Japanese culture — with origins reaching back to Anma, one of Japan’s oldest healing methods. The principle of Bihada recognises: scalp and face are one continuous skin.

Heian period · 794–1185
黒髪

The ideal of well-kept hair

Court ladies tended their hair up to five times a day. Kuromage, the ideal of beautifully kept black hair, was inseparable from beauty and cultural identity.

Edo period · 1600–1800
椿

Tsubaki oil & the head massage

Tsubaki oil (Camellia japonica) became the essence of hair care. Head massages were seen as essential for circulation and inner balance — a direct forerunner of today’s head-spa philosophy.

Modern · 1980 – today

Shiatsu meets science

Tokyo salons married traditional shiatsu techniques with modern cosmetic science. Today head spas in Japan are as everyday as nail studios — a fixed part of the self-care culture.

The active heritage of tradition, evidenced today: tsubaki oil · niacinamide · hyaluronic acid · peptides.

Origins · a thousand years in four chapters

The road to the Head Spa.

What is experienced today in Tokyo, Düsseldorf or Vienna as a Head Spa is not a marketing invention — it is the current end of a very long road. It begins in India, passes through Japan’s bathhouses and tea houses, and arrives in the salons of Tokyo, where in the late 1990s the casual hair wash became a ritual in its own right.

Wakamizu consciously stands in this lineage — and takes the next step: we treat the scalp by the principles of modern skincare. Skinification means the same care, the same active-ingredient logic, the same diagnostics your face receives — for the skin your hair grows on. Cosmetic, precise, without healing promises.

Champi — the root

In Ayurvedic India, head massage has been everyday culture for over two thousand years; warm oils, firm grips, clear rhythms. The Hindi word chāmpi later became the English shampoo.

Edo — tsubaki & onsen

In Edo-period Japan, women cared for their hair with camellia oil (tsubaki), and onsen bathing culture turned cleansing into restoration. Beauty and inner balance were considered one.

Tokyo — the ritual

In the late 1990s Tokyo salons formalised scalp care into a stand-alone treatment: steam, exfoliation, pressure points, precision — the “facial for the scalp” was born.

Today — skinification

The latest chapter: taking the scalp seriously as skin. Diagnostics instead of guesswork, actives instead of fragrance promises. Wakamizu joins the ritual of then with the skincare science of now.
